Converted Rustic Corn Crib Patio

Even though this sounds like an odd birthday present for your son, my mother-in-law did gift this corn crib to my husband Noah. Isn’t a corn crib every man’s dream present? 😉

Part of the gift was to preserve the history that comes with the corn crib. It was originally at a neighboring farm where it was about to be torn down and disposed of.

Of course I was on Pinterest checking out converted corn crib bars and corn crib patios, converted grain bins and everything of the sort. Check out my inspiration board here.

First things first, it was not an easy feat to move a tall, metal object that’s meant for storing corn. If you plan on doing a corn crib or grain bin project get a good plan in place for HOW you will move it from location A to location B. We are lucky enough to have a payloader with forks at the dairy farm which we used to pick up the corn crib and load it on a trailer. The same payloader came to our house to unload it off the trailer and even help hold the pieces in place while getting it all set up. Be forewarned that these items are not easy to move, nor can you do it very quickly.

Next, we poured concrete to bolt the corn crib to. I didn’t want to do all this work to have it blow away in the first strong summer storm. As you can see in the pictures, it’s stamped and stained.

Lastly, we outfitted the corn crib with real farm decor. The flower beds around the outside are made from silo staves.

Inside the milkhouse sink serves as a table/bar top, as well as, cooler.

The globe lights create a gorgeous ambiance at night. They can be found on Amazon.

For the seating area, I found two vintage chairs at a local junk sale and the wicker table was left at our old house from the previous owner.

To finish off the seating area, there is a firepit from Menards.

Even though we don’t use the corn crib patio area a whole lot, it is nice to have for the occasional fire. Do you have a corn crib or converted grain bin? How hard did you find them to move?

  1. Love the corn crib! We built a house on our families 40 acres and are looking for landscaping ideas, since our lawn blends into a open field with NO trees for shade on a dirt road in Michigan. My question is how wide is your crib?
    Thank you & happy farming!
